Depending on what type of music you make, you should check out the MIDI-only Propellerheads Reason (if you make a lot of electronic dance music). No audio recording in Reason though.
or Tracktion (for all around MIDI and audio recording).

Thank you very much, Sir Lionel for the useful links! I use Cakewalk til now, but thinking of shifting to another MIDI app sometime why shift if you are used to Cakewalk...i've been using cakewalk for 12 years now...started actually with cakewalk for dos...

Actually, mahirap nga magshift when you get used to a certain software or way of working. Sometimes though, it may be nice to just get a new perspective on doing old things by using different software. cheers!~
